« Les ateliers de la création » were a real chance for us. Only four schools were chosen in France and that selection was a great opportunity for our school. We met different artists (musicians, movie makers, plasticians, …). Our students’life was enriched. Despite ups and downs, we have been able to remain implied and volunteer. Now, we can’t wait to go to ¨Paris and meet the other students, visit the Pompidou Centre, the IRCAM and present our musical piece. Furthermore, we will enjoy a few days in Paris and see the Eiffel Tower, travel by boat along the Seineand create closer links between us.
On March 1st 2011, we met Proxima Centuri at « Le Rocher Palmer ». That group is made of five members. Their name was chosen because as there are five members, they wanted to be called the name of a star. They play contemporary music.
Their band is made of a saxophone player, a pianist, a drums player, a flute player and someone creating special noises (electroacoustics). A concert was planned on the day after. Three groups were to play together. The French group was Proxima Centuri. There was also a German band (United Berlin ensemble). The third group was Spanish (Nuevo Ensamble 20-21).
We sat down and talked together. They tried to explain what contemporary music was. It sounded something difficult for us as we don’t know anthing about that kind of music. They told us they never released any CD and never will as they want to earn money thanks to their live concerts only.
Furthermore we listened to a repetition. The German and the French musicians played together. They used the instruments a different way, for example creating sounds from the piano laying a brick on the keys…..
The day after, we were invited to « Le Rocher Palmer » for the concert.
